Keep an eye out for the recent documentary, The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks (2022). The film is based on a 2015 biography by Jeane Theoharis of the same title. The Rosa Parks documentary strives to correct popular misconceptions depicting Parks as a timid and “accidental” participant in the Civil Rights Movement. The filmmaker points to a different reality, one that shows Rosa Parks as a long-time activist, organizer, and participant in several social action initiatives.
The Alabama State University Archives, located in the Levi Watkins Learning Center agreed to allow the documentary to feature several photographs from the ASU archival collection.
