We are happy to announce the return of our newsletter celebrating the mission, accomplishments and work of the National Center for the Study of Civil Rights and African-American Culture at Alabama State University. As we begin again after a period of global challenges and shutdowns, we look forward to producing this special publication to highlight the activities of the Center. As the title indicates, we seek to “Lift Every Voice” and proclaim to the world, our efforts to preserve and teach the rich history and culture of African-Americans with a special focus on the role of ASU in the modern civil rights movement.
And so, in this new issue, we are happy to focus on our unique public programs and many of the activities that have transpired since our last publication. You will discover exciting updates and images of accomplishments even during the period of the pandemic. In spite of the challenges of operating during the shutdown, we have expanded and sustained our Center and adapted to this change with new online and virtual productions.
With much excitement and anticipation, we hope you will enjoy the “LIFT Every Voice” newsletter. Thank you for your continued support of the Center as we remain loyal to our mission to preserve our history and culture. In the words of Dr. E. D. Nixon, civil rights pioneer, we continue our work to teach the “children coming on,” so that future generations will understand and embrace the rich legacy of African-Americans.
Again, welcome!
